Sunhouse Academy Curriculum

Sunhouse Academy Curriculum
At Sunhouse Academy, we believe true learning begins outdoors—where children discover themselves through adventure, challenge, and connection.
Our program is grounded in research showing that nature-based education fosters stronger social-emotional skills, better problem-solving abilities, and higher long-term resilience. Every day, children at Sunhouse Academy are immersed in a dynamic outdoor environment that builds their confidence, independence, and real-world life skills.

A Daily Rhythm that Builds Strong Foundations
Each morning begins with a mindful trail walk, creating a calm and grounded energy for the day ahead. Shared mealtimes deepen social bonds and encourage storytelling, leadership, and active listening skills.
Throughout the day, children move through a balance of:
- Child-Led Exploration: Encouraging initiative, self-advocacy, and curiosity.
- Nature-Based Challenges: Strengthening problem-solving, resilience, and teamwork.
- Teacher-Guided Workshops: Focused on STEM, literacy, numeracy, and life skills through playful, hands-on activities

A Focus on Lifelong Skills
At Sunhouse Academy, we intentionally teach the essential skills that form the foundation for future success:
- Conflict Resolution: Children practice navigating disagreements with empathy, assertiveness, and self-regulation.
- Self-Advocacy: Through decision-making opportunities and group discussions, children learn to express their needs and opinions confidently.
- Resilience: Exposure to manageable risk in nature, such as building shelters or navigating uneven terrain, fosters perseverance and grit.
- Public Speaking and Communication: Daily storytelling, group meetings, and leadership opportunities build verbal confidence and active listening skills.
Our custom-designed literacy and numeracy workbooks align with BC curriculum standards but are delivered in a way that engages and excites children—building foundational skills without rigid, desk-bound learning.

A Community Like No Other
With a low child-to-educator ratio and a commitment to seeing each child as a unique individual, Sunhouse Academy offers a rare environment where confidence, capability, and connection are nurtured naturally.
Our program is designed for potty-trained children aged 3–5 who are ready for a vibrant, outdoor-based learning experience. Children must be able to remain within group sightlines and demonstrate readiness for structured outdoor activities.
Sunhouse Academy is where children learn to lead, collaborate, solve problems, and advocate for themselves—skills that will serve them for a lifetime.
